1948 Signed Vintage Photograph ~ Percy Spencer (Microwave Oven Inventor)

For sale is a vintage signed original 8” x 10” photograph from 1948 of Percy Spencer, the American engineer best known for pioneering microwave technology and helping develop the modern microwave oven.

The Bachrach Studio photograph displays a seated portrait of Percy in a suit, featuring a handwritten inscription and signature in the upper left corner of the image (done with pen ink). The writing reads “Photo taken 1948” along with his signature. The autograph is genuine. On the back of the picture, there is an inscription written by Percy to my dad that says, “Ernie, This is a Bachrach touch up. If I get a later one will send it to you and you can tear this one up.” Signed “Percy.” At the time this picture was taken, both Percy and my dad were engineer colleagues at Raytheon.

Condition: The photo shows edge wear, three small toning stains (mostly along the left edge), and a light roll from age. The image is clean with good clarity. The reverse side of the picture shows other areas of staining. See photos for exact condition. Signature is described as found and is attributed to Percy Spencer based on the handwriting and inscription, but buyers should evaluate the autograph independently.
